Good morning and welcome to Day
5 of the 8th Annual Spring Training Trek 2001!
The Braves have the day off today,
and I was all set to take advantage of it by making my first
ever visit to Universal Studios. But due to a
transportation mix-up (I did NOT oversleep), the day off
became an off day. So what do you do when plans made 2
months ago fall through? When things are not going your
way? You eat and
regroup. Well, I eat when things are going well, too, so I
guess it was not exactly a light bulb moment. But it
occurred to me as I sat at the Rain Forest Cafe at Downtown
Disney's Marketplace, that the whole week I
had been trekking and not really vacationing.
Although the sun was out it was very chilly (for Florida,
that means 65 degrees). So I went back to my room at the
Port Orleans - Riverside resort, relaxed, and read a book.
Not very exciting but very much rewarding. Around dinner
time, I picked myself up and made my way back to Downtown
Disney, did a little more shopping, then returned to
Pleasure Island. Appearing live at the Jazz Company was The
Mambo Brothers, so while I listed to some great blues music,
I had a St. Louis Blues Cheese Burger and, a first for me,
cherry wheat flavored Sam Adams beer. It was actually
pretty good .
And so that is the extent of my
Braves Day Off. Tomorrow we return to form and hit the
theme park pavement before the 7pm Braves game. Until then,
remember we should all take a day off to smell the roses.
